In 1997, various national associations representing owner-managed and family businesses founded a European association under the name of GEEF (Groupement Européen des Enterprises Familiales - European Group of Owner Managed and Family Enterprises), so as to improve the understanding of the contributions arising from, and the interests of family business at a European level.
Since its foundation, GEEF has established close relationships with the EU institutions and has worked to ensure that the particular concerns of family firms are taken into account in European policy-making. Family enterprises represent responsible ownership putting a face to the business while contributing hugely to Europe’s enterprise economy. To learn more about what constitutes a family business, a European definition is available here.
If you want to find out more about GEEF, we invite you to read the GEEF mission statement and to have a look at the list of GEEF members.
